my edible foodstuff - Sheperd's Pie

Oh dear I could see spiderweb everywhere in here and it's not even near Halloween!
I know I should write often, I mean, that's the real reason why I decided to start blogging.
*duhh!*
But few things are going around which keep me delaying my posts.
Oh yeah, I'm really good at procrastinating. If there's a subject on procrastination I'd probably get a big fat 'A' already!

Anyhow, as for now, I'm still not working. Well, still looking.
*ahem*
So while enjoying my "honeymoon period" at home, I have taken up few new hobbies just to kill the time.
And of them is cooking! I've always enjoyed cooking but as I have 10 mouths to feed at home, cooking at times can be quite challenging, you know.
I've to try to suit everyone's appetite -not too sweet (my sister is a diabetic), not too salty (my dad has HBP), not too spicy (for my brother and nephew), not too high in cholesterol (for EVERYONE!) and so by now you have probably figured out cooking might not be that easy-peasy job for me to begin with.
But in the end, when everyone's stomach is full and happy, that satisfaction feeling is just indescribable.
Sometimes after I've finished cooking, I don't even bother to eat anymore.
Too tired. I'd rather go upstairs sleeping.
(*_*)

As they say, sharing is caring, right?
I'd like to share with you one of the easiest meal to cook which everyone would surely love!
It's called Sheperd's Pie.
It's basically meat covered with mashed potatoes.
Yup, who doesn't like meat AND mashed potatoes?
You can always google the recipe but the way I do it, I just throw in whatever there is in the kitchen.

1. Boil few potatoes until it's soft enough that you can poke easily with a fork. Drain and mashed them. Put in some mayonnaise and a sprinkle of salt.
2. Drain your mince beef and at the same time heat up a bit of oil in a large pan. Throw in chopped garlic and shallot. After a minute, add diced carrots and tomatoes. After the carrots have soften, add in meat and sliced mushrooms.
3. Once meat is cooked, add a bit of water (or beef stock) and taste it to see if you need more salt and add pepper (white or black) and few herbs of your choice. I always love rosemary (for its delish smell!) and oregano (for its distinct taste) but always remember not to put in too much herbs as they may alter the whole taste of the recipe.
4. Spread over the sauteed meat in a baking dish and layer it with mashed potatoes. Do make sure the meat layer is higher than potatoes. Lightly run through the mashed potatoes with a fork to get a brownish top after baking is over.
5. Bake the dish at 200 degree Celcius for about 30-40minutes. Do remember that you need your sauteed meat to be a bit moist so it won't dry while it's baked.
6. Ta-dah! Ready to eat!

Easy-peasy huh?
I'm sorry I don't have measurements for each ingredients as I'd simply throw in whatever there is in the kitchen cabinet and fridge.
If there's no mushroom, I'll change it with peas.
Or if you don't eat meat, use fish like dory fillet instead.
If you're a vegetarian, use various beans -peas, chickpeas, kidney beans. Can also add in corn, broccoli, capsicum..basically any type of vegetables you like.

This is super easy to make and trust me, everyone loves it!
If you have super delicious recipes on Shepherd's Pie, please share it with me!
