Just a quick hello!

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well wherever you are.
The weather is crazy these days in my country. One minute it's a hundred degree outside and the next minute you have the rain pouring like there's no tomorrow you start to feel you probably need Noah's Ark.

Anyway, it is going to be a quick (or rather, short) one this time.

After some thoughts I have decided for this blog to focus on my reviews on things I love and passionate about, mainly cosmetics, skincare items and places I have visited.

I feel like at this moment, these keep me sane.

Work has been, well, quite challenging as well. I tried very hard not to use 'crazy'.
Apart from 24 teaching hours per week, which has been like that for me for almost 2.5 years now, there are also research and paper to be done, students' activities, preparing quizzes, test and exam questions and not to forget, students' work to be assessed. My average number of students for each class this semester is 28 and I have 6 classes so yeah, go figure. I'm teaching 3 subjects this semester by the way.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am in no way no anything complaining. This is the job I signed for regardless of the system and all. I need the job and I'm beyond grateful for having it.
It may be (very) tiring but other than being Samantha Brown, I can't imagine doing anything else as my career. One thing for sure, it allows me to travel twice a year because of the long semester break so you lose, you win some.
I got the chance to visit Seoul again last May and it was amazing because I finally had the chance to try out their street food. It is actually super easy to get halal food over there. I will share more on the trip later. Trust me, that is going to be a loooooong one.

I will start off reviewing stuff again some time this week. The ultimate reason I'm doing this is simply to share my thoughts on products that work or don't work on me. Prior to buying anything I always spend time reading reviews made by other awesome beauty bloggers and this has helped me with my purchase a lot. So I thought I should be doing the same too to help others too.
I am excited that finally is happening. I have been delaying this for so long now.

Till then, just like how I love Ellen Degeneres always says, be nice. The world needs it these days.

Here we go again...

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone,

Wow this blog is left untouched for so long I could imagine spider webs all over!
The last post was January last year. Yikes really took me too long to come back.
A serious case of a writer’s block, huh?
So many things happened over the past year and a half. I finally got the job I’ve been waiting for almost three years and it was a tad farther from my house but then there’s the saying “you win some, you lose some.” I have to travel almost 60km everyday back and forth but I’m okay with it since I could still live with my parents.
I know some people can’t wait to move out of their parents’ house but I’ve been there, done that for a few years and now I just feel like it’s the best to live with my aging parents again. Of course they still nag me over curfew and stuff I do like the mess in my room, spending too much time surfing the Internet and the loud music, things like that, you know..but I get to cook for them, make sure they’re taking their medicine on time and a bit of exercise, go shopping and watch K-Drama together and above all, I just get to spend time with them. I tell you, I’m getting very emotional and melancholic easily these days. My good friend Als would say it’s a sign of aging.
Damn but it’s true.
You basically just start to appreciate things more as you grow older. Well, maybe others start early but I’m always 2000-late, you know. *lifts an eyebrow*
I have come to realize that if you’re going to live a long live happy, you’ve got to do happy things and let go of the unhappy ones.
Shit happens every day –people jump in lanes on your way to work, the PC doesn’t work in the classroom, colleagues and office politics, yada yada yada..just get over it and move on. The whole world is already in a mess so let’s just buckle up and face everything without it affecting you so much.
I have also learned that if you take everything ever so seriously, you’d end up miserable.
Try to look at the glass half full instead.
People jump in the line –be grateful you are at least in a car with the air-cond full blast.
Your plan doesn’t work out in class –make up something, you’re in charge, the kids wouldn’t know. Colleagues and office politics –I’ve worked at 4 different places before so trust me, it happens at anywhere you work so just do the right things and they won’t be able to touch you. Keep your integrity intact.
Bottom line is (you probably have heard of this), you have to love whatever you’re doing for you to be happy.
If I had a bad day and it made me sad, I would just go and eat those colourful donuts because it put a smile on my face. Or listen to any Big Bang song because TOP’s voice always makes me weak in the knees. Or go home and watch “The Wheels on the Bus” on YouTube with my adorable 2yo nephew.
Small things can really make a difference. You just have to pay more attention to them.
I know I am beginning to sound like a 80yo grandma but this is all very true. Bad things happen but don’t forget that God is still blessing you –He woke you up today, some people didn’t get that chance.

With that being said (or written), I hope I could keep on writing and not continue somewhere in the next year. Will take this precious blog more seriously now. See you in a couple of days.
*InsyaAllah*

#GE13

It's voting day here in Malaysia on the 5th of May.
I voted for the first time so I was excited and nervous at the same time.
First times are always hard to forget. I woke really early yesterday, had my shower and got ready then waited for everyone else downstairs while taking my quick brekkie which usually is a cup of 3in1 Regular Nescafe.
It almost felt like Hari Raya. Seriously.

So we went to our voting venue which happened to be my old primary school. Not much of memories here as I only stayed for a year for my UPSR, before that I lived in KL.
I guess as it's a once-in-5-years event the process got a bit out of control. The lines were everywhere, people were confused, the officers didn't really know how to handle the situation and the place was super stuffy.
The worst thing? My parents and other senior citizens had to queue for almost an hour before they got their turns. Plus their venue was on the first floor so I felt really bad seeing them climbing up the stairs with much effort.
It's not like there's no class on the ground level that they can use.
Oh well.

Anyway, after we had done voting, we went for a brunch and went home and basically my parents only talked politics the whole day.

*i'm turning into a Na'vi from the movie Avatar. Yeaaah!*

And as usual on Sunday evening, I went to the pasar malam in my neighbourhood.
Just another Sunday.
Life goes on.

oh well..

I'm a sloooooooow writer these days.
Or maybe I'm just plain lazy.

Anyhoooo, the semester is already done.
Done with classes, marking, uploading marks...but there's still some stuff need to be completed before the new semester starts.
Since there are no classes now, me and my colleagues can be quite free during the day so my days usually have the same pattern:

Phone rings at 10am.
"Qils, breakfast jom!"
Nasi lemak or roti canai and hot coffee.

Phone rings at 1pm.
"Qils, lunch nak?"

And as I pack my stuff to head home at 4pm, my phone rings. Again.
"Qils, lepak minum jom!"

And I look in the mirror wondering how I gain weight.
(*.*)

I can't stand the irony anymore. The fact that I want classes to end during semester but I also want classes during the break but I also want my holidays. So how now brown cow?

Libra and choices.
The worst pair.

Humanity.
Something we can never give enough.

Save the planet, baby!

Bought this tee at Brands Outlet a few weeks ago.
It always has nice and affordable tee. This cost me only RM50 for 3 pieces. Fair enough to be used as night tee.
I realize now why it's sold at the outlet, the "its" is supposed to be "it's".
 (*_*)

Here we go again...

Wow it takes forever for me to update this blog these days.
I’ve always had so many things to write about but most of the times they ended up written in my mind only. It’s not like work has been hovering me but my office is on top of ‘kayangan’ that I’ve become too lazy to stay in the office.

Anyhoooo, work is doing fine, I already finished marking final exam paper and key-ed in the marks. It was hard for me to fail students but I couldn’t just pass them especially with both eyes open when it’s clear they didn’t do well in classes. The next level would be much harder for them and I honestly think they aren’t ready for it. I was worried they couldn’t survive. It took me a few days to finally decide this, it was really hard for me.
*sigh*

*pic: http://www.smashingmagazine.com*
*yep, exactly how I feel every single day. LOL!*

Work aside, so many things happened in the last few months.
I went to Jakarta (again!) and bought too many kain ela for myself.
I discovered Malaysian GMarket and bought more facial masks just because they’re freaking cheap than retail.
I attended few friends’ weddings and it is fun attending weddings because it always ends up like a mini gathering.
I watched too many Korean dramas.
I downloaded almost every BigBang’s songs, couldn’t get over them. And oh, TOP is still hot while maknae Seungri is getting hotter nowadays.
I sincerely have so many things I want to share –holidays, beauty stuff, drama reviews etc.

Hopefully now that I’ve no classes I will be able to write frequently.
(^.^)

curbing heat wave these days

Rejab Bulan Allah

Oh my, it's already Rejab.
To me it basically means Ramadhan is just around the corner. In less than 2 months, actually.

Apparently this is my first post in more than 3 months.
Wow.
What did I do? Why didn't I write? What have I done to my blog?
I wouldn't say my work caught me up because to be honest, I really had time to write. It's not like I had classes all day long in the past semester.
So I guess it was just plain lazy.
My bad.

Anyway, Rejab is the 7th month in Islamic Hijra Calendar and Muslims are very much urged to fast, recite al-Quran and pray more for blessings from Allah.
"Kelebihan bulan Rejab:

I got this from a really good book dad bought a few weeks ago, written & compiled by Dato' Ismail Kamus.
It is only RM50 and it has really thorough contents -from birth up until death.

To my Muslim friends, may we all cherish the month of Rejab and may Allah bless our prayers & deeds.
InsyaAllah.

smartphones: fail.

*pic googled*

This is probably my mirror reflection as I am reinstalling my BBM for the 2749130th times!
Smartphones can really be a pain in the as*!
Grrrrrrr!

18SX

Oh my this is sooo LOL!
And 18SX that I've got to snap a picture!
Saw this at a souvenir shop at Asian Avenue, Sunway Pyramid.

It's a pen holder, people.
Just in case you're still wondering.
;)

two roads diverged in a yellow wood...

*The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost*

It's funny how I'm always reminded of this poem every time I'm torn between two choices.
Other than performing solat istikharah for Allah's guidance, this poem helps me to think over which 'road' I should take.
At the moment I'm very torn over where to work at, either in Melaka or around Selangor.
As accommodation isn't a problem, it's more of where my heart is.

If I decided to work in Melaka, it'll be good because I'm close with my family which is the biggest plus point. I get homesick a lot when I'm away so staying close with my family is probably, hands down, the only reason I need to make me work in Melaka.
Other than that, I believe I could save more because there's no toll and everywhere is considered near here.
Even though I know I'd be missing my close friends who live in Selangor, I could just visit them once a month over the weekends. Selangor is just about 1 1/2 hours from Melaka anyway.
Another downside? Maybe I'll be having less social life as my close friends are all far away and there's not much great shopping malls here. Hehehe...

If I decided to work in Selangor, the pros and cons would just be the opposite of the above reasons.
Oh dear...

You know, sometimes I wish I could just be a housewife or work from home or just teach tuition classes a few hours a week.
I really don't mind doing laundry and cooking, I'm accustomed to that by now.
My mom is a housewife since she got married to my dad. Although she said it can be very boring to stay at home, as a child it feels really different. Nothing beats my mom's cooking and knowing that she takes care of everything very well makes me more appreciative and we grow closer. Mom used to pick me up from school and I would tell her everything about school as soon as I hopped into the car. I even told her about my high school crushes and we would just laugh along.
I'm not sure if I'm working I would have time to really listen to my children as I'm marking students' papers. I guess I've to sharpen my multitasking skills from now.

On a second thought, I guess I should get a boyfriend first.
*sigh*

ain't about the cha-ching, cha-ching!

Gosh it's already halfway through Ramadhan.
Like I always say "Time surely flies like a G6!"

Hari Raya theme this year would be pink-purple.
Me, my parents and my sisters have already bought our new attires for the celebration way before Ramadhan started.
I usually buy only one new baju kurung every year, and would re-use my old baju kurungs.
Well, not that old actually as I'd only wear them for attending wedding ceremonies or family kenduri.
One thing for sure, I don't really splurge on this type of attires.
Simply because I definitely wouldn't wear them often and I just don't want to waste money on dry cleanings.
On top of that, I'm not a believer in dry cleaning, it just doesn't seem, hurm, clean. I prefer gentle hand washing.
However, I really believe that whatever you're wearing, it should be you wearing them.
And not the clothes wearing you.
You are supposed to shine, whatever you're wearing is just like a side dish -to spice up your food.
Think of it like this, if you swear by a piece of cloth, imagine if something spilled on it, your day would be ruined -because you really splurge on it and you depend on the cloth to make you shine.
Why would you let a piece of cloth ruin your day?
Sh*t happens, get over it.

The same goes with shoes, handbags and accessories.
I love shoes.
No. I'm madly in love with shoes.
There were times when I had already planned in mind what to wear, which shoes and handbags to match prior to going out.
Then after 2 hours of walking, some shoes do gave me blisters and I would just go and change to whatever shoes I have in my car.
Be it blue, green or even yellow and didn't match my whole attire at all.
After all, I bet people don't actually notice. If they ever did, they would forget it after a minute they walk pass me.
Sometimes we're too obsessed with how people would think of us when really, they do not.
Unless you're a celebrity, of course. Then you'd be on those gossip websites which we all have love-hate relationship with.

Anyway, as we're in the midst of Ramadhan, it's nice to remind 0urselves not to overspend or overeat or oversleep.
Over praying is fine, nonetheless.

*remember our favourite fashionista, Becky Bloomwood?*

*pics googled*

Frankly, in the end, you don't need anything expensive to look good.
*I'd rather save up money for vacation these days. Vacation surely needs tonnes of money!*
All you need is to be confident with yourself.
And the best part is -confidence is absolutely free!
Cheers!

Well hello hello...

*pic googled*

I feel like years passed on since I last wrote in.
I have soooo many things to write about. Well don't all 'writers' say that when they return to writing?
Writer's block. As if.
Anyway, I had been super busy with my dissertation. Submitted already, now waiting for the result. Hopefully everything goes well. Ameen...
And since the result is not out yet, I'm just not in the mood to apply for jobs. I refuse to put M.Ed in my resume because I don't want to jinx my result.
Yep, I'm THAT superstitious.
It's stupid, I know. But try to convince me, I won't bite.

Seriously, I actually DO have a lot to write about.
At least I think so but you know how good I am at procrastinating.
*hehehehe*
Unfortunately, can't start tonight as I've to wake up real early tomorrow morning to fetch my baby sis at UTM, Johor.
I mentioned somewhere here in this blog that I don't really enjoy driving. I wish I have a private jet. I feel driving is a waste of time.
HOWEVER, I'm quite a good driver.
Mmmm-hmmmm..
Whatever.
Pffffftttt...!

So I'm gonna hit the sack immediately after I shut down my tiny laptop (I'm dying for a white iPad 2!) and probably continue writing tomorrow night.
That, if I have finished packing for another roadtrip on Sunday morning to Penang.
I'm longing for Sungai Dua's prawn mee!
I love my life right now.
All praises to Allah.
=)

Best 2010 Memories!

Okay, so 2010 is ending and 2011 is really happening anytime soon.
How do I feel?
Hurm, there are ups and downs in my life along 2010.
But I have to admit it's one of the most exciting, fantastic years of my life!
Where should I start?

I remember starting off this blog in late 2009.
*smile*
It was just for fun, not the kind of blogs where I write the happenings of my life all the time.
I just wanted to share my views of the world, what I like and loathe.
And up until this minute I'm still glad I started blogging.

There were two best things happened in 2010.
First, I visited London and Paris.
I know I only wrote first part of the trip and kept procrastinating the other parts but I promise, one sweet day I'll post pictures of the two amazing cities in the world!
London is a shopping heaven and people are so warm and friendly and I so wanna live there!
I wanna go to the numerous museums every week, stroll along Oxford Street every other day and picnic at Hyde Park, just sitting there reading good novels all day throughout summer!
Oh God, what I would give for that to come true!
And Eiffel Tower, Paris? It's Eiffel Tower darlings! It's one of the 'must-go-places' before you die!
I would want to visit Paris again.
Thanks to Air Asia, it doesn't seem too impossible now!
Anyway, the next best thing happened in my year 2010 must absolutely be meeting Adam Lambert!
Oh yes honey and it was the best five minutes of my life!
I got lucky during his Glamnation Tour on the 14th Oct 2010 at Bukit Jalil where I met him backstage before his phenomenal concert started.
I am a huge fan of him and meeting him was not even in my wish list just because I thought it's never gonna happen!
It was a-mah-zing!
Plus, I didn't only meet him, I also won an autographed Glambox!
Schweeet!

*that's me in my purple heels next to Adam!*
*i looked bloated. whatever*
*For Your Entertainment CD, music videos VCD, remixes & a glam mouse pad!*

2010 will also be most memorable because I turn 25 this year.
God, my age is a quarter century. Okay let's not go into details about my age.
hahahaha
Another reason 2010 is a good year is because of the great movies all year long.
Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Parnassus (okay, not so great but Heath Ledger over-the-Everest-top-amazed me!), Nine, Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, Shutter Island, Prince of Persia, Inception, Takers (Paul Walker!!), Toy Story 3, Rapunzel...
I haven't watched Narnia and The Tourist, by the way.
Will probably do early next year ;)

What else huh? Hurmmm...
Oh I bought my first smartphone, a Blackberry Curve which has been fantastic so far! A reason I have a Twitter account now.
And oh, I bought my first Marc Jacobs!!! *pengsan*
I went to Penang twice and Cameron Highlands thrice this year for holidays. My parents just love CH too much.
I have developed some sort of romance feeling with Chuck Bass. Darn those salmon suit he's wearing! He looked so good in it!
My darling friend Nashima got married. I cried. Her wedding was my wedding of the year ;)
I dreamed of Ian Somerhalder every night. Well, almost every night. But none in those dreams he bites my neck or sucks my blood. I prefer him doing so. muahaha
I bought almost ten pairs of shoes.
And one thing I am so glad happened this year would be passing all my M.Ed subjects. The final semester was the toughest!
*humongous smile*

So what have I not achieved this year?
Love.
Not wanting to be mushy here but it's nice to have someone you're excited to have dinner with or watch movies together. Or just knowing you're loved.
Well, good things are worth waiting for.
=)

This year there's less drama, just more great times with my family and friends.
My nephew is getting smarter these days. He's getting into pre-school next year. Oh please don't grow too fast sweetheart!
I also spend too much 'bonding' times with my friends -karaoke, steamboat, road trip, lepak melepak, gossiping, shopping!

I have a great, fantastic, amazing and wonderful 2010!
I am not yet a millionaire but I am forever grateful.
I thank Allah for everything, for leading the way for me. For all the wonderfull-ness around me. For the blessings HE gives my family and friends. For the strentghs I have in me to go through every fear, worry and sadness. For the rezeki HE showers my family. For my tears and laughters in becoming a better person.
All praises to Allah.

So come quick 2011!
I have nothing to be worried of but to live life to the fullest!
Happy new year everyone!
May you have a blast!
Leave the past behind and look forward for great things to happen!
See you next year!
Cheers!
=)

Talking to the moon...

I should write more often.
I told that to myself thousands time already.
I.hate.procrastination.
But I still do it anyway.

First and foremost, Salam Ma'al Hijrah.
May Allah forgive our wrongdoings throughout whole last year and bless us with endless happiness throughout this new year.

And to Christians all over the world, Merry Christmas.
Hope you had a blast, tore lots of gift wrappers, ate too many good food and got badly drunk that you couldn't even remember whether you brush your teeth the night before.
Okay, just kidding.
Happy holidays.

Everytime Christmas is over, we know one thing for sure.
The year is meeting its end, too.
Ugh.

Pre-2011.

Finally got myself 2011 planner.
A very simple planner. A petite planner so I can always put it in my handbag.
I used to religiously keep diaries but now that I don't have much time to write every single details of my daily life, a planner would do. At least it helps reminding me of things I need to do.
I can be very forgetful, mind you.

It's really happening, huh?
2011?
365 days surely fly daym fast this year.
In about three weeks 2010 is ending and I feel like I still have so many things I wanna do before this year ends.
Do you feel the same way I do?

It'a been a while...

I should write more often.
Usually I want to but most of the times I'd be too lazy.
Blame it all to procrastination.

At the moment I'm blissfully holiday-ing in my hometown.
I'm done with my classes, InsyaAllah, results are still not out but I still have my dissertation to complete.
I really hope I pass all subjects regardless how tough they were.
Well, you know, at this point CGPA is not much important as passing all subjects.
The thought of having to re-sit for academic discourse is just too terrifying.
I'm taking a break until Aidiladha before finishing my dissertation.

Earlier, I wanted to fill in what's been missing but I left my planner in Shah Alam.
Darn.
I need to look for new planner for 2011.
Gosh, it's almost 2011.
Crazy how time really flies.

Meanwhile, I make myself available every week for new episodes of 'Gossip Girl' and 'Vampire Diaries'!
And I try to watch 'How I Met Your Mother' back to back!
Thank God for the Internet and DVD!
I'm now officially a couch potato.
Well, minus the potato actually. I need to lose some weight.
hahahahaha

Chuck Bass is so adorable! Even in Bahasa Malaysia!
=D

Miss MacGyver

I'd always thought myself to be handy.
I know how to change the fuse inside the plugs, fix leaking pipes, change the lamps and starter plugs, change door knobs...
I guess it runs in the blood, my father has always been the handy type.
He thinks calling for people would be a waste of money.
For example, when I was locked from the outside of my room, the house guard hammered the knob until it's broken into pieces.
I called few people who can fix the door and the charges were between RM30-RM70.
One fine day, I sent my duvet to a laundry centre and there's a hardware shop next to my laundry centre. I asked the salesperson about door knobs and he taught me the way to ensemble the door knob, all by yourself.
The knob only cost me RM15.
I did it on my own.
And I was very proud of myself.

So when my Sony Ericsson K770i handphone digits couldn't work last week, I told myself I need to fix it on my own this time because just around 8months ago I spent almost RM150 just to change the digits.
Blardy RM150!
I could add a few more hundreds and get myself a new handphone!
I had to buy torx screwdrivers, though, which cost me RM8.
Torx screws basically looks like a six-petals flower, not like Phillips screws.

*torx screwdrivers*

*torx tip. pic googled.*

*phillips. pic googled.*

*daddy's handy screwdrivers*

Carefully, I disassembled my K770i, starting from the back cover, pulled out the battery and unscrewed all 10 super tiny screws. Phillips screwdrivers were also needed.
After almost 2hours figuring out what really happened to the digits, the problem was actually with the connection of the electronic circuit board. It was a bit lose and upon hearing the click sound, the digits' lights came back to life!
Okay I was being dramatic.
But still, I was so happy with the fact that I don't have to buy a new handphone.
Especially with my financial state at the moment.
hahahaha
Darn it I probably had paid RM150 just to fix a loosen board!

*during the operation*

*operation: successful! yippee!*

If you can fix your handphone, there's nothing that you cannot fix.
Right. Let's hope so.

Happy Twen-teen Five!

Okay so I am a quarter-century-th years old now.
I felt old.
Like, really old.
Then I looked into the mirror and saw the same face, the same chicken-pox scars and almost pimple-free skin (yeah, right!) and thought,
"I'm still me. Nothing has really changed."
Age is just a number, peeps. I should have known that.

Thank you all for your warm wishes and prayers.
I really appreciate that.
I'm stepping into a new age with bliss and I'm glad I grow old with wisdom.
I am grateful for my lovely family and friends.
I am a slow learner but still, education is for life.
Experience is the best teacher.
A friend once quoted, "don't just stay alive, learn to live your life."
That would be my new resolution now.
hahahaha

Anyway, my sister bought me a cake from Secret Recipe. Guess what she wrote on top of the cake:
I know!
Not helping, right?!
She should have written something like, 'stay cute' or 'happy 25th'.
Wait until it's your turn, darling sis.
*wicked smile*
No big celebration, though, just a small and nice family dinner.
I guess I'm passed those big parties.
I already had amazing parties when I was younger.
Once I had a party at KFC Taman Melawati where my daddy reserved the whole space on the first floor and invited almost all of my classmates. Even teachers!
I had the prettiest dress on, pink mary-janes and long socks.
*where did i put all of the pictures?!*
I also had multiple birthday celebrations at home, delicious homemade birthday cakes and fun games- musical chair was a must-have!
And I've to admit, the only moment I looked forward would be unwrapping the presents and reading aloud birthday cards!
Those were the days.
*sigh*

I would also like to wish Happy Birthday to my fellow Librans out there!
I am still indecisive but I feel like I have been more strong-headed.
I hate being indecisive!
It's not fun when you take too much time deciding whether to eat 'nasi goreng kampung' or 'nasi goreng cendawan'.
They're still nasi goreng, for heaven's sake!
I should learn to decide faster from now on.
Sometimes my brain just stops functioning when the menu has almost 100 types of food.
I don't think I'll ever be a restaurant entreprenuer.

Happy 25th birthday to me!
More great years to come!
Bring it on, baby!
